
Ahead of the 2026 World Internet Conference Digital Silk Road Development Forum, scheduled for July 21-22 in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, media representatives visited Xi'an Xianyang International Airport's Terminal 5 on July 18 to explore the city's digital development and smart infrastructure practices.
Located in Xi'an, the Terminal 5 embeds digital technologies across construction, operations and passenger services, including building information modeling (BIM), digital twin systems and intelligent management solutions.
Combining intelligent systems with Tang Dynasty-inspired design, the terminal demonstrates how digital technologies can support smarter aviation services while connecting modern innovation with Xi'an's profound cultural heritage.
The visit formed part of the forum's pre-event media tour, which focuses on digital cooperation, innovation and building a community with a shared future in cyberspace.

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
