Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly shaping daily life with unprecedented depth and human impact, turning cloud-based algorithms and models into tangible improvements in terms of clothing, food, housing and transportation.

To further explore how AI can enhance quality of life and public services, a forum on “AI for Better Life” will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on April 14, as a signature event of the 2026 World Internet Conference (WIC) Asia-Pacific Summit.

Hosted by the WIC Specialized Committee on Artificial Intelligence (WIC SC on AI), the forum will bring together representatives from government agencies, international organizations, WIC members, the WIC SC on AI, as well as other AI-related institutions for discussions and exchange of ideas.

It will also feature the release of a series of research reports examining innovative AI applications in public services, assessing societal value thereof and exploring pathways for AI development and governance — contributing to an inclusive, intelligent and human-centered future.

In addition to the release of reports, the forum will also feature addresses and keynote speeches by officials and experts.

Keynote speakers will include experts from the Chinese Institute for the New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategies and the International AI Governance Association, alongside senior representatives from Tesla, JD.com, Pinduoduo Group and Seres Group, who will share their insights on AI’s role in improving public life.

The eight research reports to be released are outcomes from the WIC Think Tank Cooperation Program, covering AI open-source ecosystems, technology evaluation, governance and AI-enabled social development.

They have been produced by leading institutions including the Macao Association for Internet Research, ModelScope, Nankai University, Wuhan University, China Telecom, Renmin University of China, Zhejiang Lab and Zhejiang University.

Since its establishment in 2024, the WIC SC on AI has served as an platform for international exchanges and cooperation, facilitating the global sharing of AI achievements.

Leveraging its Standards Program, AI Safety and Governance Program, and Industry Program, the committee organizes themed forums and joint research to advance responsible AI development.

The Hong Kong forum will focus on AI applications in public services, gathering global expertise, building international consensus, and exploring new development and governance pathways, in order to support inclusive and sustainable AI development.

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
