At the press briefing for the 2026 World Internet Conference (WIC) Asia-Pacific Summit, Ren Xianliang, secretary-general of the WIC, introduced a sub-forum dedicated to the digitalization and dissemination of the Chinese classics.

Against the backdrop of rapid advances in digital technologies, the forum will explore how technology can empower humanistic care, enabling ancient civilizations to find a “warm” revival in the digital age, Ren said.

During the forum, a report themed on the digital evolution and future trends of Chinese classical texts from a global perspective will be released, offering insights based on global research, data monitoring and case studies on how Chinese classics are evolving in the digital space, Ren noted.

The global creative competition “Millennia Dunhuang: Reimagining a Timeless Legacy”, jointly initiated by the WIC Specialized Committee on Cultural Heritage Digitalization and the Center for Digital Humanities at Peking University, will also be launched during the summit, according to Ren.

The initiative aims to transform historical heritage into immersive digital experiences, enabling people around the world to engage with and appreciate the enduring charm of traditional culture, he said.

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
