From July 4 to 6, a delegation from the World Internet Conference (WIC) visited Germany to promote exchanges under the WIC Think Tank Cooperation Program with the Munich Circle, the National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), and the University of Münster.

WIC representatives gave an overview of the international organization, including its research agenda and achievements, at the meeting co-hosted by WIC and Munich Circle. They welcomed the institution on joining the think tank cooperation program and expressed hopes for deepening collaboration with German institutions on frontier topics such as internet innovation and inclusiveness, industrial development, and cybersecurity and governance, aiming to bridge the digital divide and foster inclusive global development.

Professor Michael Dowling, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Munich Circle and member of acatech, warmly welcomed the delegation and voiced strong support for the WIC Think Tank Cooperation Program. He expressed willingness to actively participate in the program, sharing research resources and outcomes with the WIC. He proposed jointly organizing seminars and publishing research outcomes on topics including digital infrastructure, digital twins, artificial intelligence, and smart cities, to advance academic exchange and cooperation in the internet field.

Karen Wagner, head of International Relations at acatech, affirmed that the WIC serves as an important platform for global exchanges and cooperation in the internet field. She expressed the academy's desire to conduct joint research with the WIC in areas such as digital transformation.

Bernd Holznagel, professor at the Institute for Information, Telecommunications and Media Law at the University of Münster, praised the WIC’s role in promoting global internet cooperation. He expressed the hope for further mutual understanding and interaction, proposing collaborative research and seminars under the think tank cooperation program.

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
