On June 11, the World Internet Conference (WIC) Specialized Committee on Artificial Intelligence (SC on AI) convened the Symposium on the Development Progress of Global AI Standards in Beijing.

Over 30 representatives from the WIC's Standard Promotion Program (SPP) member organizations and invited experts in the field of AI standards participated in the event through a hybrid online and offline format, engaging in in-depth discussions around the compilation of the "Global AI Standard Development Report."

During the symposium, Wei Kai, co-lead of the SPP and director of the AI Institute at China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), outlined the progress on the compilation of the Global AI Standard Development Report.

In the keynote session, participating experts discussed various aspects of global AI standardization. Zhang Zhuo, division chief of the Bureau of Network Technology at the Cyberspace Administration of China, explained China's measures for identifying AI-generated synthetic content."

Xu Bin, director of the EU Standardization Expert Program in China, provided an in-depth analysis of the EU AI Act, including the structure of relevant standardization organizations and progress in standards development. 

Jia Xiongwei, chief researcher at China Unicom Research Institute, vice chair of ITU-T SG20 WP3, and chair of CG-AISEC/17, shared updates on the status and progress of standardization work across ITU-T study groups. 

Min Jinghua, member and deputy leader of WG7 under the National Technical Committee 260 on Cybersecurity of the Standardization Administration of China and a registered expert with ISO, IEC, and ITU-T, presented the development of trustworthy AI standards within ISO/IEC JTC1 and shared future outlooks. 

Zhao Meng, senior standards manager at the IEEE China Office, introduced IEEE’s latest achievements in AI standards.

During the case presentation session, industry experts from organizations such as iFlytek Co. Ltd., Lenovo Group, Shanghai Nokia Bell Co. Ltd., Qi An Xin Group, Honor Terminal Co. Ltd., China Telecom Research Institute, SenseTime, and Shanghai Enflame Technologies Co. Ltd. shared practical experiences in AI standards pre-research, formulation, revision, and application. Their contributions focused on key report sections related to enhancing standard interoperability and advancing responsible AI practices.

The SPP research team noted that expert feedback will be integrated into the report's revision process to ensure its relevance, innovation, and practical value.

In the next phase, the WIC’s SPP will continue strengthening communication and collaboration among member organizations, AI enterprises, and research institutions to build international consensus and establish an international standards exchange platform.

This report seeks to promote the development of global AI standards and support high-quality industry growth through stronger cooperation, shared technical knowledge, and mutual benefit.

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
