Hao Yi, executive vice-president of Nokia Shanghai Bell, delivered a speech at the "AI Governance and Sustainable Development: for Good and for All" Workshop during the 2025 World Internet Conference Asia-Pacific Summit in Hong Kong on April 14.
She said that five considerations are critical in promoting AI-powered sustainable development — innovation and regulation, data privacy and personalized services, technological transparency and intellectual property rights, security and convenience as well as ethical considerations and commercial interests.
The rapid development of digital technologies in recent years, including 5G and 6G networks, diverse and heterogeneous computing power through cloud computing chips and software, AI, quantum computing and blockchain, has continuously spurred new growth needs from individuals, industries and society, significantly advancing socio-economic development and social progress.
"In terms of multilateral cooperation mechanisms and collaborative dialogue for international governance, we advocate for promoting cooperation in industry application and commercialization and deeply exploring the potential of generative AI across various sectors," Hao said.
She also suggested strengthening collaboration between research institutions and enterprises through university-enterprise partnerships to translate academic and research innovation into commercially viable solutions and maximize their value.
"Conversely, practical experience gained through commercialization can feed back into technical research, further solidifying and enhancing the technological foundations of generative AI," she added.
The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
