Gisa Fuatai Purcell from Samoa delivered an emotional speech at the World Internet Conference Asia-Pacific Summit, saying that small island nations like Samoa should not be left behind in the  global AI transformation. 

The Samoan government’s regulator called on large developing countries and leading tech companies to enable small nations in the South Pacific to access the latest advances in AI, ensuring equity and shared benefits in digital development.

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
