The World Internet Conference (WIC) hosted "Journey into the Tencent SSV" event in Beijing on Jan 7 to discuss how digital technologies can empower healthcare for public good.
More than 60 participants attended the event, including representatives from the embassies of Cambodia, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, Zambia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Venezuela in China, as well as healthcare experts, owners of the 2024 outstanding cases, WIC members and media representatives.
Zhu Dianjun, Tencent's Editor-in-Chief and Vice President of Public Policy, introduced Tencent briefly. Liu Sha, Director of Idea Support Center of Tencent SSV, shared insights into their public welfare practices under Tencent’s Sustainable Social Value initiative. As the Project leader of the Innovation Program-Red Umbrella Plan at Tencent SSV Inclusive Health Lab, Zhai Jiahuan showcased the team's innovative approaches to leveraging digital technologies in promoting sustainable development of maternal and child health.
Focusing on the theme of "Digital Technology Empowering Healthcare for Public Good", Saffa-Woya Rogers, Deputy Ambassador of Embassy of Sierra Leone in China, Antonio Portilla from Embassy of Mexico in China, and Ntsoaki Matela from Embassy of Lesotho in China, discussed efforts in their respective countries to use digital technologies to improve public health, and expressed their hope for future international cooperation.
Xu Zongyu, Deputy Director of National Center for Women and Children's Health of China, and Xue Jingjie, Secretary General of China Foundation for Birth Defects, shared their practices in utilizing digital methods to promote maternal and child health.
Wu Xian, Director of Tencent YouTu Lab Jarvis Research Center, as well as Gong Mengchun, Director of GMC Lab of Guangdong Medical University, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of DHC Technologies Co., Ltd. talked about the innovative application of digital technologies in various healthcare scenarios.
Participants agreed that digital technologies are expanding the frontiers of healthcare development and emphasized the need for international cooperation to tackle global healthcare challenges collectively.
In his concluding remarks, Ren Xianliang, Secretary-General of the WIC, stressed that integrating digital technologies with health-related public welfare initiatives can help bridge healthcare gaps and promote a more inclusive, equitable and accessible global health ecosystem.
Ren called for global collaboration to adopt a people-centered approach, expand the application of digital technologies in public health, and promote technology for good.
He said that the WIC will continue to facilitate diverse international exchanges focusing on topics such as digital health and inclusive digital development, exploring replicable and scalable models for global digital health practices.
After the seminar, participants visited Tencent Beijing Exhibition Hall together to fully explore the rich practices of digital technology empowering various industries.
Case Overview
Since 2021, the World Internet Conference (WIC) has annually invited global submissions for practice cases of jointly building a community with a shared future in cyberspace. A review committee selects outstanding cases that are in line with the vision of building a community with a shared future in cyberspace, have broad international influence, convey inclusive values and are in diverse forms. The selected cases are presented at the WIC Wuzhen Summit, showcasing achievements in international cooperation in cyberspace.

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
