AI chips much more efficient than usual one

The journal Nature recently introduced an artificial intelligence (AI) chip that has 14 times the efficiency of traditional digital computer chips. The chip developed by IBM Research Labs in the U.S. may break through the bottleneck of AI development due to its lack of computing power and low efficiency.

Installed capacity of China’s industrial robots accounts for over 50% of the world 

The installed capacity of China’s industrial robots accounts for over 50 percent of the world’s total, making the country the world’s biggest industrial robot market, according to the Chinese media outlet People’s Daily. The penetration of robot manufacturing in China reaches 392 units every 10,000 workers.

Pure AI-generated art works not protected by copyright in US

Without any content input by humans, AI-generated art works are not protected by copyright in the US, according to the law of its government, a court in Washington recently ruled. 

EU strengthens digital supervision

As the EU strengthens its supervision on the science and technology industry, a number of new rules are taking effect, which means that large tech companies of the US will face the risks of the EU’s supervision and huge fines, according to The Wall Street Journal.

ARM may become largest IPO this year

ARM, a chip design company of SoftBank, submitted its IPO application on Monday to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, applying for being listed on Nasdaq with the code of ARM. The IPO may mark the issue of largest tech stock since the IPO of Alibaba in 2014.

Tesla’s Model 3 to be manufactured by end of September

Tesla’s Model 3 will start to be delivered from the end of September. In order to ensure the capacity supply, the already-paused phase 1 battery production line of its Shanghai factory will resume production in September. 

Microsoft integrates Python into Excel

Microsoft has integrated Python into the open beta of Excel, so as to enable users to make better use of Excel with the help of Python library and data visualization. 

Kubota and NVIDIA develop graphics processors of unmanned agricultural machine camera

Japan’s machine manufacturer Kubota is cooperating with US company NVIDIA to develop graphics processors with AI camera. Kubota plans to deliver unmanned agricultural machines that could be remotely monitored for the first time in Japan as early as 2026. 

Google’s mixed reality project in trouble 

After Google gave up its Project Iris augmented reality glasses project in June, the company’s mixed reality headset project developed with Samsung is also facing setbacks now.  

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
